Brazil has become a prominent player in the global adoption of cryptocurrencies, supported by the use of stablecoins.

Brazil has become a prominent player on the global stage regarding the use of cryptocurrencies, according to the Global Crypto Adoption Index released by Chainalysis.

The company considered four aspects in order to achieve the outcome: crypto service providers, peer-to-peer transactions, international transfers, and on-chain cryptocurrency holdings.

The nation has surpassed major economies like Japan, India, the UK, and the US. This doesn’t necessarily indicate a larger market than the US, but rather that the country ranked first in the study based on the four indicators used.

Brazil transferred $252.5 billion in cryptocurrencies from July 2025 to June 2026.

What accounts for this release?

Stablecoins were significant in the narrative, consistently. Research shows that the circulation of these digital assets in Brazil surged by 495%, surpassing the 89.4% growth seen in other Latin American countries.

In Brazil, transfers of person-to-person stablecoins within the range of $10,000 to $100,000 increased by 562%, surpassing the regional high of 209%. Similarly, transfers ranging from $100 to $1,000 saw a 666% growth compared to 252% in the region.

Local investors prefer these cryptocurrencies, with their participation in income tax returns exceeding 80% of the monthly declared volume last year. In September, the combined trading volume of the leading cryptocurrencies in this category, USDT and USDC, has exceeded R$ 17 billion.

Local market and government rules

Stablecoins were not the sole factor driving growth in the Brazilian cryptocurrency ecosystem. The local market’s progress has also contributed significantly, with domestic platforms now attracting 12.5% of the total inflows compared to just 1.5% previously.

The shift is notable as other Latin American countries have seen domestic platforms losing ground to international competitors, according to Chainalysis.

Clear rules around regulation are appreciated by some and disliked by others. Experts mentioned in the material believe that these rules provide banks, companies, fintechs, and other financial institutions with more confidence to engage in the crypto market, leading to increased demand.

Thiago Sarandy, Binance’s general director in Brazil, sees the country’s top ranking in cryptocurrency adoption as a significant achievement indicating the market’s growth and development.
